In-Clinic Cognitive Assessment vs. KioCare:

Same Science, Different Purpose

Maybe you’ve noticed you’re forgetting things a little more than you used to. Or tasks that used to feel automatic now take more effort. If you’re already on medication for memory concerns, there’s probably a quieter question sitting in the back of your mind: “Is my brain health actually holding steady?”

There are a few ways to check in on brain health, but the gold standard is cognitive testing. You can get that through a neurologist or a memory clinic. The catch is that actually doing it isn’t always simple.

That’s the gap KioCare was built to fill: cognitive testing you can do over the phone.

We use the same family of assessment tools clinics do. What’s different is who it’s designed for, and how it’s delivered.

Same rigor, a much lighter lift

A full clinical workup exists to answer a diagnostic question: which part of the brain is affected, and how far has it progressed? Getting from “possible mild cognitive impairment” to a confirmed diagnosis means covering essentially every major cognitive domain. That thoroughness is exactly why hospital testing is so reliable — and exactly why it takes 2 to 3 hours, requires an in-person visit, comes with real cost, and often means a long wait to even get scheduled.

KioCare starts from a different question: “Things seem fine day to day — but is there something worth keeping an eye on?”

Answering that doesn’t require mapping the entire brain. It requires watching the three domains that show early changes first: verbal memory, attention, and executive function (the frontal-lobe skills behind planning and follow-through). Narrowing the focus is what gets the session down to 20–30 minutes — no clinic visit required, just a phone call from home.

To be clear: KioCare isn’t a substitute for a clinical diagnosis. Think of it as a regular check-in — a way to keep tabs on brain health without the friction, even on a busy week.

Why these three domains

Verbal memory, attention, and executive function aren’t arbitrary picks — they’re the skills that carry most of daily life, and they’re also typically the first to show signs of change.

Verbal memory is the ability to hold onto something you just heard or something that happened recently. Early signs can look like asking the same question again minutes later, or not quite recalling a conversation from a few days back.

Attention is staying focused through a conversation or a task without losing the thread. Early signs can look like losing track of what someone was saying mid-conversation, or feeling noticeably more worn out after routine activities.

Executive function covers planning and managing multi-step tasks: keeping appointments straight, staying on top of medications, following a familiar routine through to the end. Early signs can look like repeating yourself, or a recipe or household task that used to be second nature suddenly feeling harder than it should.

Built to fit into real life, not disrupt it

A lot of people put off cognitive testing simply because the process itself is exhausting — months on a waitlist, then hours in a clinic. That’s a real burden, especially for older adults.

KioCare removes that friction in two ways:

It happens at home. You take the call somewhere comfortable and familiar — your own living room. Listening and speaking is all it takes to cover the key domains.

It stays precise without the length. By focusing only on the areas most sensitive to early change, KioCare delivers a clear, meaningful result without a multi-hour session.

The value of checking in regularly

The best defense against dementia’s impact on daily life is early awareness — catching change while there’s still time to act on it.

KioCare brings that same level of rigor that used to require a hospital visit into something you can do once or twice a year, from your own home. It gives you a real picture of where your brain health stands, along with guidance suited to you. And if something worth watching does show up, you gain a head start — time to bring it to your doctor or start supportive habits sooner rather than later.

Taking care of your brain health shouldn’t mean putting your life on hold. With KioCare, you can start building that habit comfortably, from home.
